Designing Apps That Customers Will Love – Points to Keep in Mind

Designing apps that stand out in an app store and that which result in increased downloads by customers, calls for the adoption of certain winning strategies. Latest figures suggest that Apple Store and Google Play combined account for over a million apps. With such a huge collection of existing apps, making your app prominently visible among the millions and driving great customer demand is no easy task. However, there exist certain design techniques, which if we put in to practice, will enable your app to stand out prominently among the vast multitudes. App Icons Design your app icons in such a way that they create a beautiful and memorable impression on users. Your app icons are the first impressions that a user has about an app and you should then design your app in a way that clearly coveys what the icon is all about and what it represents. Make simplicity of app design a priority as when an icon’s content or shape is overly complex, the details can be hard to discern especially at smaller sizes In addition, adding a margin to your icon will make the icon look great in all backgrounds. App Name Providing a relevant name to your app is an important factor in your app development process, as the user sees the app name when he searches for an app in the Store. Your app name should then be appropriate, easy to pronounce, self-explanatory and leave no element of doubt about what the app is all about in the minds of users. Make your app icon name unique; do a Google search to see if someone else already uses the name; if so avoid using that name. It would also be ideal if the name you intend to use becomes your keyword. Once you have named your app icon, avoid making frequent changes to the name even if there are multiple updates for your app. Keywords Reports suggest that over 50 % of apps are discovered via the search method using keywords. Keywords then play a very crucial role in making your app visible in the Google / Apple store. There used to be a 255-character limit on the app name; but since September 1, 2016, Apple has limited the app name to 50 characters. You should also see to it that within the 50-character limit, keywords should be judiciously placed; however, keyword stuffing is to be strictly avoided as search engines consider such keyword stuffing spam. Description You should provide your users with an engaging app description that highlights the major functionalities and features of your app. Highlight the USP of the app so that users become aware of the immense benefits that will accrue to users who use the app. Also, do not add too many keywords to the description in an effort to affect the search results; search engines will penalize such efforts. Screenshots Screen shots are one of the first visual elements that are visible to the user when viewing an app. Screenshots illustrate the main screen of the app so that  user can evaluate whether it is a good fit. Your screen shots should convey what the app is for and why it should be used. Make sure the images are attractive and clearly visible to the user as your screenshots are what has to convince users to download or buy your app.
